We go the extra mile
At Pampas Heights we offer our very best sires for sale in the ring every year. Other Studs put the top sires into their own master sire paddock, and they are never offered for public auction. It is our contention that what matters most is the quality of the stags we offer in the selling ring, rather than the look of the ones we keep for ourselves! We know that true breeding comes from the pedigree (especially on the dam's side), more than the appearance of the sire. We also know that we have better animals coming through every year, to breed with our own female stock. It is our wish to separate ourselves from the others by offering our very best two and three year old sires for sale (with realistic and fair reserve prices). Nevertheless we thought you might like to watch the development of some of our older sires as they grow out this year, and look at some of the other sires of descendents we will have listed in this year's sale lots.

Junior is displaying over 40 points at two years of age. This will easily be the best head I have seen on a two year old stag.

Admiral has some storm damage to his brow tine. We look past that to see his magnificent 27+ points head. We expect his two year old head will be better than Sir Tristrams two year old head (whom we paid $40,000 for at the Stanfield sale last year.)

A pure Warnham from James mated to super dam Camelia. Sir Lamorek has everything in one package. Massive beam, 50 inch main beam length, wide and stylish spread, perfect tyne placement, high heredibility, cool temperament, high fertility, big body size, gold scoring 532.4IOA and much more... He is a truly iconic stag in a highly competitive industry full of super stars. Sir Lamorek was trophied in April 2011

The fourth and final son of Camelia, this time from Tamar. A straight Warnham Woburn cross, we were tempted to let him go at the 2-year-old auction, but stuck to our policy of not letting selected potential Master Sires go for less than a fair reserve price. Boy - I am ever glad we did.

Another fancied stag who was sold at auction as a 2-year-old for top money to a trophy farm operation. At that time his score was just over 300 IOA. We were delighted to subsequently buy him back after security issues at the trophy farm. He is a son of ATM out of our only Camelot daughter PP0333. PP0333 sports a fully developed multi-pointed antler on her left pedicle! She sheds this and grows another every summer. Maybe this is a sign because Atlas is threatening to become the star at Pampas Heights.

Sir Tristram is a pure Warnham son of Mars and was the top priced stag sold at auction in NZ last summer when we bought him at Stanfield -Lot 2. He is a magnificent animal independently measure at 358 IOA aged 2 years. His wide stylish heavy head fits neatly into our breeding strategy. Unfortunately he suffered a near fatal accident shortly after arrival at Pampas Heights and he almost did not survive the winter. With lots of TLC we have nursed him back to partial health over the winter/spring, and secured a good supply of excellent semen from him shortly after his arrival. His first calves are dropping as I write this in early November.

Another acquisition in the summer of 2010/11 was Mandrake, a pure Woburn son of Drakelow. He was bought to add his massive body size to our emerging Woburn line and his multi crown tops to Pampas Heights’ heavy stylish bottom ends. He is an exciting addition to the Stud and his three year old head is filling out with a lot of promise – even by our high standards. He is also a clown with a beautiful temperament. (Pictured at 2 years.)

At the 2006 sale ATM was retained, used and sold as a 2-year-old the following year. His massive beam has come through in his sons. ATM is a son of Merlin PH out of an high performing Thomas Albert daughter PP0112.

Offered at auction as a 2-year-old, the buyers did not see the value that we saw (that is until after the sale!). Consequently he too served our hinds as a 2-year-old. Pheonix is a son of the mighty Sir Lamorek out of Fay, who is a daughter of Harvey out of a full sister to Taylor. Fay is pretty special and is also the dam of Tyson. Pheonix's first sons were the stars at the 2011 sale. He was keenly sought after as a 3-year-old and sold to another breeder.

The third Master Sire from Super dam Camelia, but this time from President, made Commander a pure Warnham. Massive beam and a score of mid 400's at age five were among his credentials. His high heredibility has enabled us to choose females to mate him with and be confident of getting high scoring sons with massive beam. He was offered as a 2-year-old, but failed to make the reserve, and we were more than delighted and excited to retain him and add his use his hugely positive contribution to the betterment of our breeding program. Last summer he was sold to another breeder.

This fellow made the reserve as a 2-year-old, so we sold him at auction. But we were so impressed with his 2-year-old head that we bought back a considerable amount of Semen and have kept his bloodline alive and well in the herd to this day. He was one of the early Tamar sons from outstanding Pampas Heights female, Sally – who is a pure Warnham daughter of Taylor and from a full sister to Sultan.

One of Bedevere's first crop of sons, Monarch was a son of dam Y98802. Along with Merlin, he followed the (now well established) Pampas Heights pattern of being offered with a realistic reserve price at the 2-year-old auction, failing to meet reserve, being used as a Master Sire by Pampas Heights for a short time, then getting sold to another stud at well above the original 2-year-old reserve price! Massive beam and multi tops were his hallmarks.

Merlin PH was a son of the mighty Lewis out of Sir Gallahad's daughter G96603. This gave him a mix of Woburn, Warnham and Furzeland genes in his purse. He was kept for Master Sire services at Pampas Heights following the loss of Sir Gallahad in 2001. His main contribution was massive beam which lives on his sons and grandsons and has become a feature of the Pampas Heights bloodlines. He also had beautiful temperament and was a delight to handle. He was sold as a 6-year-old to another stud breeder.

The first of four outstanding Master Sires to be borne from Camelia, this one sired by Sir Gallahad. His term was snuffed out prematurely when he took on President in a post rut encounter and didn't know when to quit! This was a tragic setback for Pampas Height's breeding program.

A son of Trent out of Y93169, President was a pure Warnham stag with an uncanny ability to consistently produce sons who exceeded their sire's statistics. President was bought from Stanfield Oaks as a 2-year-old and served at both Pampas Ridge and Pampas Heights as a key Master Sire. Unlike Sir Gallahad, his time coincided with some well-bred females to work with, which no doubt contributed to the stream of quality sons from his matings.

A son of the mighty Romulus, holder of all kinds of records in his day, from Woburn hind Black 9, a Woburn/Furzeland cross, Sir Gallahad was the early cornerstone of Pampas Ridges' early English stud breeding campaign. He was runner up in the North Island Hard Antler competition at the tender age of 5 years, and held the all comers record for sheer weight of stripped hard antler, until (like his predecessor with this record - Terry - met an untimely end when his massive antlers became entangled in a netting fence. A truly huge stag at 328 kg his progeny had his beautiful temperament and body mass.

Truly massive round beam and all correct. Sir Cumference will be available for purchase by private treaty this Summer.
